HELLO!
I'm Hayley Taylor and I have been a Maths teacher for 30 years and have an evidenced track record in significantly improving students’ GCSE and A Level Maths grade.
I was Head of Maths for 10 years and then Assistant Head for 8 years. My success in these roles led me to become a Specialist Leader in Education. I worked across several schools in Kirklees one day a week, successfully supporting them in raising standards in Maths.
I am extremely passionate about raising standards in Maths and working with young people to improve their life opportunities.
My Teaching Philosophy
I believe one-to-one tuition offers an ideal context to support individual needs, allowing me to tailor pacing, provide thinking time, and respond to each student’s unique learning journey.
1. A Calm, Supportive, Confidence‑Building Atmosphere
-
I create a safe learning space where students feel comfortable sharing ideas and taking risks
 -
My calm, patient manner helps learners develop self-efficacy and confidence—even when they make mistakes.

2. Personalised Instruction at the Right Pace
-
In one-to-one settings, I observe how a student arrives at an answer—whether correct or not—and adapt my teaching in according to their thinking and needs.

3. Exploring Student Thinking (Not Just the Answer)
-
I value the process as much as the result. Inspecting logic behind incorrect responses reveals important reasoning steps that can be built upon or gently corrected.

4. Encouraging Inquiry, Reflection, and Metacognition
-
I frequently use open-ended and Socratic questions—such as “Why might that be true?” or “Can you explain how you arrived there?”—to deepen critical thinking and self-awareness

Final Thought
At the heart of my approach is the belief that every student has an innate capacity to think, grow, and gain confidence—especially when given time, tailored support, and trusted space. Whether answers are right or wrong, the logical thinking behind them becomes the stepping stone to deeper understanding—and indispensable confidence.
